1 Mekhala
Sailing upriver to Ayutthaya, the world heritage city of Thailand
Nowadays Chao Phraya River is important not only as a major food source and transportation mean of the region, but also as a wondrous path along which ones could see impressive scenery of nature and people’s life with Mekhala barge for 2 days 1 night.
Mekhala boat leaves its base at the River Hotel in Bangkok in the afternoon. In the evening, it comes for an overnight stop at Wat Kai Tia in Pathum Thani province, and will continue its way to Ayutthaya in the next morning.
Chao Phraya River originates from high mountains in the North of Thailand, those are Khao Dan Laos, Khao Luang Phrabang, Khao Thanon Thongchai, Khao Phetchabun, Doi Khun Tan, and Khao Phi Pan Nam. The four streams Ping, Wang, Yom, and Nan merge into one at Pak Nam Pho in Nakhon Sawan province. The great river makes its way down south pass as many as 10 provinces, including Bangkok, before it finally runs down to the Gulf of Thailand at Samut Prakan. The river is totally 372 km long.
Chao Phraya River has for centuries been the steam that feeds generations of residents in the Central part of Thailand. Usually said to be the lifeblood of Thailand, Chao Phraya River, also called the River of Kings, carry with it long history, close bonds, and colorful culture of the nation. It has not only produced great fertility to the central plains for approximately 400 km long and has been the major stream for transportation within the region, but also was the center of ancient civilization as the location of Ayutthaya capital.
After a whole night rest at Wat Kai Tia, Mekhala boat will continue to Ayutthaya early in the next morning. The quiet, unhurried pace enable all to appreciate the spectacular scenery along the both side of Chao Phraya River, until it reaches the destination at Bang-Pa-In palace.
Nowadays, Chao Phraya River has become even more significant as a marvelous stream for a sightseeing trip. On both sides of the riverbank are lively pictures of lives, scenic nature, lovely towns, and many old temples. And if you are planning to travel along this river and to visit the ancient Siamese capital Ayutthaya, we do recommend the Mekhala Cruise.
Mekhala is a collection of three beautifully crafted barges that are finely adapted front merchant ships wholely made of teak. The two-storied barges make a daily journey between Bangkok and Ayutthaya, retracing the paths of former royal processions. Its destination is Bang-Pa-In or the Summer Palace, one of the best places to see genuine Thai architecture; along the way, the barge will also make a stop at four important and sacred temples.
The magic of this voyage is the unhurried pace, the beauty of ancient constructions to visit, and the subtle colors and moods of Thai life along the river. After a few hours of the journey, the bustle of the city will be replaced by the tranquility of the countryside. Along densely wooded river will bring you through the safest and most comfortable trip toward its spectacular destination, Bang-Pa-In palace.
The brief itinerary for the first day is that the barge departs from the Riverside Hotel in Bangkok at around 02.30 pm and going upriver heading northward. In the evening, the Mekhala docks for an overnight stay at the peaceful temple called Wat Kai Tia in Pathum Thani province. After the specially romantic Thai dinner on deck, spend a relaxed evening under the stars and rest comfortably on board.
For the second day, wake up early in time for a traditional food offering to the Buddhist monks, and then have a leisurely western-style breakfast on route. Late morning disembark at Bang-Pa-In for a tour around the Summer Palace, the supreme destination of the trip.
Bang-Pa-In or the Summer Palace was built by the King Si San Phet V of AyutthayaEra. The main resthouse was constructed in the middle of the great pond, and was named the Aisawan Thippa-ard Palace. Hoever, longer the capital of Siam, this palace was left to dilapidation and ruins. After that, in the reign of King Rama IV and King Rama V of Rattanakosin Era, this palace was once again restored and it has become one of the favorite resting places of the two great Kings. From them on, more buildings and constructions were added and beautified further, and today it is a really wonderful and popular tourist attraction of Thailand. Bang-Pa-In Palace opens daily from 08.00 am to 04.00 pm.
After spending an approximate 1.30-hour tour at this palace, board a small motorboat to four important temples of Ayutthaya, namely Wat Phana Choeng, Wat Mongon bophit, Wat Phra Si San Phet, and Wat Chaiwatthanaram. All of these temples display fascinating truly Thai architectural, interior, and religious art, as well as very interesting historical background.
When these programs are all covered, enjoy a gourmet lunch at the riverside restaurant and return to Bangkok with an air-conditioned van. The van usually arrives at Bangkok at 03.00 pm.
Travelers can choose to travel in reversed way by getting to Ayutthaya province by van at 08.30 am on the first day, then visit the four temples, the Bang-Pa-In Palace, and board the Mekhala barge to spend the night at Wat Kai Tia. Along both sides of this River are abundant forests, caves, waterfalls, and wondrous mountains. Bhumiphon Dam is the largest and highest curved concrete dam in Thailand. It is built across the Mae Ping, the river that gives life to people in Tak province for generations. After the end of the World War II, the need for electricity of the country has continuously increased, and the Bhumiphon Dam project was constructed as to answer this need. The Bhumiphon Dam is named after the King Rama IX, and in 1964, it was officially opened by the Majesty himself. The dam produces most of Thailand’s hydro-electric power and ranks 8th in the world of hydro-electricity producing dams. Bhumiphon Dam is 486 m long, and 154 m high from the base to the ridge. The radius of the curve is approximately 250 m long. The base of this dam stretches 52.2 m wide and the ridge is 6 m wide. Each day Bhumiphon Dam could produce as much as 720,800 million kilowatts, and it gives fertility to an agricultural area of more than 1,500,000 Rais.
As for the Mae Ping River, it is one of the largest and most beautiful rivers of Thailand. Running pass many caves and ancient sites, along mountain valleys, and through rich forests, the Mae Ping River is a very nice and scenery route for a boat trip. For the rest of the day, enjoy your time with the Royal Party and other games and activities, or simply have a leisure swim in the river.
On the second day, have breakfast early in the morning and continue the journey to Doi Tao Lake; and arrive at the destination at around 08.00 am. 5 Wat Phu Cruise
Along the Mekhong River from Pakse to Khon Phapeng Waterfalls, in Champasak

The Mekhong River is a really charming river to travel along, since on its riverbank are many villages of Lao Lum people and beautiful natural settings. This is why a number of travelers choose to explore Champasak province by sailing along the Mekhong River with Wat Phu Cruise.
Champasak is the greatest and the most distinguished province in the South of Laos. Covered most of the area of the Bolaven Plateau, the place is pretty rich with forests and fertile with water from the Mekhong River which cuts through it.
In the past when Laos used to be ruled under France, Champasak was one of the most important towns since it was a major transportation route for the French military, through the long and widely accessed course Mekhong River. Therefore, it is not surprising to find many buildings in French style in this town, as well as a customhouse, a pot office, and a hospital.
Moreover, the Mekhong River at the part that runs pass Champasak, it grows so big that there are so many islands floating in the middle. The width of the river at this area is as long as 12 km, and it is called Si Phan Don, meaning the four thousands islands.
Along the Mekhong Riverbank from Pakse town in the north, downriver to Pratumphon town, Mulapamok town, and Khong town in the farthest south of Champasak, ones could always appreciate the peaceful and charming way of life of Lao Lum people, as well as impressive scenery of the great river. And there is no other way you can appreciate it better than sailing with Wat Phu Cruise.
Stretching 34 m long and 7.30 m wide, Wat Phu Cruise is built entirely from Pterocarpus wood. It is divided into 2 decks and there are altogether 12 private cabins in it. So the boat could accommodate 24 persons a trip.
The lower deck of Wat Phu Cruise consists of 10 fully-furnished, twin bedrooms with private restroom, AC, and hot shower, as well as the kitchen, and the main restaurant.
As for the upper deck, it comprises two sitting areas at the front and the back, some tables for breakfast and lunch, a captain cabin, a small cocktail bar, and 2 quest bedrooms.
You can choose either to cruise up or cruise down the Mekhong River. Both programs take 3 days 2 nights, the only different is that, to cruise down you get on the boat at Pakse and cruise on to Khon Phapeng Falls, whereas to cruise up you need to board a car to Khon Phapeng Falls first and then cruise back to Pakse again.
The cruise-down brief itinerary is that, on the first day you get to Si Nook coffee shop in the middle of Pakse to check the ticket and have breakfast. At around 10.20 m, get on a small boat across Sedone River to Ban Muang Pier which is 35 km away, in order to continue with Wat Phu Cruise. At noon, have a meat on board, get off the boat at the post office, in order to get a van to Wat Phu, one of the oldest Khmer temples of the region. At this famous temple that has been declared as on of the world’s heritage sites, you will be fascinated with the enormous structure and very fine stone decorations of the ancient time.
Afterward, sail back to the eastern side at Ban Muang in Prathumphon town, the stopover for the first night.
On the second day, after having breakfast on board, you will have a chance to visit the bihan Umong. This is an ancient Khmer Vihara (assembly hall) built since the late 8th Century to worship Rawatee Goddess (the wife of Shiva God).
In the afternoon, the boat will make a stop at Ban Deua Tia, a Lao Lum village where you can see Laos’s traditional way of life. More than 1,000 people are living in this village by the river. They grow crops and still live very close to nature. After that, have dinner on board and make a stop at Ban Jang (in the west) for the second night.
On the third day morning, change into small boat in order to visit Don Khon, an important island in Si Phan Don. Here you will see an old locomotive, the old bridge, and many French style buildings.
Then, get on the van and head toward the amazing Khon Phapeng Waterfall. Sometimes called çthe Niagara of Asiaé, this is the largest waterfalls of the lower part of the Mekhong River, and is one of the most famous attractions in Southern Laos.
At around 02.30 pm, the van will leave Khon Phapeng Waterfall and send you back to Si Nook coffee shop in Pakse town. This marks the end of the memorable program.

8 Samui Dinner Cruise
The Most Memorable Dining Experience at Koh Samui

Koh Samui has been acclaimed as the paradise island of the Gulf of Thailand, with its white fine sandy beaches and lush areas. At night, the beauty of this island seems to be even more glamorous with the Samui Dinner Cruise, the floating restaurant that offers perfect taste, romantic mood, and the most memorable dining experience to every guest.
Koh Samui, the paradise island in the Gulf of Thailand, is rich with natural abundance. Here ones can find many marvelous sandy beaches, waterfalls, and plenty of green coconut farms. In 1897, it was set up as a district of Surat Thani province, with the administrative offices at Ao Na Thon. Right now, this very bay has become the center of transportation of this island.

Covering an approximate area of 247 sqkm and surrounded by 53 minor islands, Koh Samui is the third largest island of Thailand after Phuket and Koh Chang. It is located in the north of the Surat Thani, approximately 84 km away from land and 750 km from Bangkok. Koh Samui has a number of peaceful beaches in the north, the west, and the south of the island. Examples are Haat Choeng Mon and Haat Bo Phut in the north, Haat Na Thon and Haat Taling Ngam in the west, and Haat Bang Kao, Haat Na Tian, and haat Lamai in the south. As for the east of Koh Samui, there are actually around 20 beaches that are known under only one name, Haat Chaweng. So it is not surprising that this beach stretches extremely long from the very north to the southern tip of this great island, and there are the most tourists, shops, and accommodations at this part of the island.
As for Haat Bang Rak, also known as Ao Phra Yai where the great Buddha image (Phra Yai) is situated, it is only a small beach near Haat Bo Phut in the north of the island. Although the beach is not as white, and the sand not as fine as other famous beaches of Koh Samui, the place is pretty quiet and fair for snorkeling. Most of all, this beach is the new area to dock yachts and speedboats of the island, and therefore the place to embark the Samui Dinner Cruise of Grand Sea Discovery Company.
Samui Dinner Cruise is the one and only motor yacht of Koh Samui that has been adapted and decorated to be the luxurious floating restaurant. Measuring 65 m long and 12 m wide, this gigantic cruise could take as many as 300 passengers for a trip.
The cruise divided into two parts, the upper deck and the ground level. The former is designed to suit best for watching scenery, so the balcony stretches from the middle to the back at both sides of the deck, while the front is the navigational and system operating cabin. As for the latter, it is a vast ground with a bar and a richly decorated dining area. The glass windows enable ones to appreciate the view throughout the journey, while the warmly lit chandeliers and candles keep this dining room extremely romantic. At the front is a small stage for unique Thai performance that is specially arranged to entertain all our valued guests. Moreover, the taste of the food in this special dinner is highly guaranteed by a Thai chef that has won the international chef competition in 2001; and the jazz music playing along the meal will surely increase your appetite.

The brief itinerary for the sunset dinner cruise is that the boat leaves Bang Rak pier at 05.00 pm, enabling travelers to appreciate the best sunset scenery at the cape near Haat Bang Por. At 07.00 pm, enjoy various dishes by our masterful chef, along with the easy listening music and unique Thai dance performance. Then, enjoy the night scenery and your leisure time onboard for a while until the boat returns to the Bang Rak pier at around 08.00 pm.
Apart from the sunset dinner cruise, Grand Sea Discovery also offers trip to Koh Pha Ngan within one day with speedboat. Tourists will be able to visit interesting attractions of the island, as well as spending time swimming and diving at any beaches they would like to, especially Haat Yao and Haat Rin Nok, the most famous beaches of Koh Pha Ngan.
